Hooria Sardar

Hooria Sardar, a feminist, educator, and education rights defender from Afghanistan.

She shares her compelling journey of advocacy and resilience. Forced to flee her home country due to the Taliban's resurgence in August 2021, Hooria now lives in Canada, where she continues her critical work.

In 2023, she founded the Education Defenders Network, a non-profit organization aimed at supporting activists and defenders globally, providing a united platform for educational advocacy. Hooria also serves as a program coordinator at 'Times Change, Women Employment Service' in Toronto, and works part-time with Heaven Refugees, both of which focus on supporting women's career advancement and educational opportunities for refugees.

She highlights the profound impact of the Taliban's takeover on Afghan women and girls, the challenges of resettlement, and the continuous struggle to balance personal and professional responsibilities while advocating for gender equity and education rights.

Her story underscores the vital importance of collective responsibility and solidarity in addressing global issues of gender and education, calling for inclusive and accessible support for newly established organizations and marginalized communities.

Despite the immense challenges, Hooria's unwavering dedication to her cause remains steadfast, as she leverages her extensive background in gender studies and practical experience to make a meaningful difference.
